Who Pays for What (Traditionally) for a Wedding?
Budgeting for the Big Day can be a daunting task for any couple.
Now more than ever, with changes to the economy, relationship roles, financial considerations, as well as self-pride and basic manners, deciding where and/or from whom the money for the Wedding Celebration will be coming from can be an overwhelming proposition.
Even though traditions have and do continue to change through the generations and cultures, here are the more common traditions for divvying up the cost responsibility.
The Groom (and the Groom's Family):
- The Marriage License
- The Officiant
- Groom's Attire
- The Bride's Bouquet, boutonnieres for the Groomsmen, and corsages for mother and grandmothers
- The Honeymoon
- The DJ/Band and liquor
- Bride's Ring
The Bride (and the Bride's Family):
- The Venue
- The Bride's Dress (and accessories)
- Outfits for Bridal Shower, bachelorette party, rehearsal dinner, and honeymoon
- Floral arrangements for the ceremony and reception
- Bouquets and corsages for the Bridesmaids and Flower Girls
- Photo and Video Services
- All professional services for the reception, including food and decor
- The Groom's ring
- Invitations, Announcements, Wedding Programs
- Transportation of couple and wedding party to and from the ceremony and reception
Wedding Party:
- The wearer usually pays for Bridesmaid's and Groomsmen's outfits.
- Maid of Honor and Bridesmaids host the bridal shower and Bachelorette party.
- Best Man and Groomsmen to host the bachelor party.
