Hale and Massagli portrayed Marta, a backup singer, and Frankie, the band's security chief, respectively, in the beloved film starring Jack Black as a substitute teacher who transforms his class into a rock band. Their initial meeting at auditions in New York City left a lasting impression on Massagli. Reflecting on that moment, he recalled thinking, "Wow, that girl’s really, really, really something else."
After filming concluded, both Hale and Massagli stepped away from acting to pursue different career paths. Hale became an OB-GYN ultrasound technologist, while Massagli earned a law degree and now works as a lawyer for TikTok. Despite their busy lives, the cast maintained their bond through group chats and occasional reunions.
Fate brought Hale and Massagli back together in 2018 when they discovered they were both studying in Florida. A lunch to catch up rekindled their connection, leading to a romantic relationship. The couple announced their engagement in June 2023, with Massagli proposing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
